June bug (snapseed)

We’re coming to the end of summer. Leaves have been dropping for a week or more, and another cold snap has dipped into the Bluegrass. I’ll wave so long to the June Bug until next year. It’s probably a Japanese Beetle, but we always called them June bugs. When I was a kid, we tied a little string around their legs and held tight as they flew in circles around our heads. Why we thought that was entertaining is beyond me, but we got hours of fun out of it. Summer wasn’t summer without a June bug on a string. In any case, I love them in their beautiful green and brown glory, and I apologize to the hundreds of June bugs that I surely maimed as a child.
