Since parking has turned into a nightmare on campus, forcing me to park in the six-story garage that I hate, I’m noticing a particular acorn tree. This morning, the light was golden. I stopped to get a closer look. Acorn leaves turn brown. They’re not the flashy color leaves we long to see in fall. Yet, the intricate weaving of yellow and green is, for me, as stunning as the vibrant yellows and reds we expect. Indeed, I find it more compelling, more interesting, more joyful because of its subtlety. That’s the most beautiful part, much like the people. All we have to do is stop long enough to see it.
