“When something goes wrong in your life just yell, ‘Plot Twist,’ and move on. ”
~ Mollie Weis
There’s a Cooper’s Hawk that makes his home in one of the large trees in the President’s yard. I can see much of the yard from my office, and I often see the hawk having a chipmunk…or two, if it’s a good day. I was walking through the President’s yard last Wednesday when something fell beside me. I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was the Cooper’s Hawk, but he didn’t have a chipmunk, he had a full size squirrel. Of course, I pulled out my camera, and pretty soon, all the students were walking by with their camera phones. The hawk was clearly wary of us, me especially as I walked around him, but he maintained his composure. I saw him later from my office dining on his catch from a high perch in the Ginkgo tree. That Cooper’s Hawk is big and gorgeous. He needs a name. Maybe Big Red.
