“It looks like an eternity, but it’s a short trip. Enjoy life and be kind.” ~ Unknown
Dad turned 83 today. We had a small cookout to celebrate and invited his brothers and sisters. They couldn’t all be there at the same time, but they came when they could. Tony and Charlene came by yesterday and stayed for hours. Danny and Sherry came this morning and stayed for hours. Those who couldn’t be with him at all – Phillip and Mabel – they called him. They did not talk for hours. He woke up and was having a really good day, and that meant he was able to enjoy his closest family, and they could be with the best of him. In between the jokes and food was his beloved caregiver Sheema Washington waiting on him hand and foot (and helping me get everything together), a beautiful flower arrangement delivery from Anthony and Jackie Lykins, and over 200 Happy Birthday greetings on facebook. He was exhausted by the time the last guests left. I’m exhausted, and I would do it again in a heart beat. It really might have been his best birthday ever. He loves his brothers and sisters so much that being in their company was the perfect gift. Thank you, God, for granting us this day together – and what a gorgeous Kentucky day it was.
