It’s not every day I’ll drive eight hours to see a play but that’s just what I did. The small town of Wetumpka, Alabama has a wonderful community theatre headed up by a friend I hadn’t seen in 50 years. That’s right – 50 years. Kristy Kelly Meanor wins the prize for the longest time since I’ve seen a friend, and she happens to be the fabulous artistic director of the Wetumpka Depot Players. This weekend they debuted A Storm Came Up, a book written by Doug Segrest and adapted for the theatre by Kristy. It is an extremely moving piece of work that takes place during the civil rights era in Alabama. It’s particularly sad because some of the content is still relevant. The cast did a wonderful job. Everything about it was fabulous. Totally worth the drive.
