“I want to say thank you to the rare few individuals in my life who have listened without judgment, spoken without prejudice, helped me without entitlement, understood without pretension, and loved me without conditions.” ~ Unknown

March 1971

As I gathered Shero’s things for her burial, I opened a box and found this set of photos on top. Remember, I said Tony had practically been family since I was little? Look what a beanpole he was! And Shero was modern with her hairdo and sunglasses. I remember this day. It was a weekend, a Saturday, I think, and we set out in Shero’s 1970 hunter green Duster (I loved that car) and headed toward Breathitt County, I think. I’m not sure where this body of water was, maybe Carr Creek or part of Panbowl Lake, but there was a roadside picnic stop along Highway 15 not far from Jackson. We stopped there for a while. Tony will remember exactly where we went. He’s got a memory like a steel trap. Most of these photos were made when we ended the day with a stop at Uncle Ralph Paul’s grave up on Stacy Fork. Shero has a treasure trove of old photos hidden in her house. I will cherish each and every find, and gaze with gratitude upon us all as youngsters. This year might be a big ‘ol trip down memory lane.
