“This morning, someone told me that I was ugly. I started to feel super sad and then gave them a hug because it must be horrible to be visually impaired.” ~ Father Jim Sichko

In 2009, my Terry grandparents died ten days apart. My sweet co-workers gave me a $100 gift certificate to King’s Gardens to console me. I bought four fruit trees, one for each grandparent. The dwarf peach tree was for my Papaw Orville “Bodine” Adams, and the regular peach for my Papaw Thornton Terry. Both of my grandmothers made incredible apple jelly, so I planted apple trees in their honor. The crabapple tree is my Mamaw Hannah Hamilton Adams, and the Jonathan apple is Mamaw Hazel Prater Terry. Both peach trees have produced very small fruits, but what the squirrels don’t get, blight does. Every year has been this way. The crabapple and Jonathan trees have had a few pieces of fruit in the past, but the squirrels refused to let me have any. But this year, the Jonathan apple tree exploded! We’ve been harvesting apples for the last three weeks, and it is still weighed down with fruit. The squirrels and rabbits have their share on the ground and have left the hanging fruit for the humans. I must say this full tree is a beautiful thing.
