“No one is coming to save you. This life is 100% your responsibility.” ~ Unknown

see-through history

Here’s another shot from yesterday’s field trip downtown to discuss building materials. The spire belongs to First Presbyterian Church where I attend services…when I go, that is. And the parking lot? That used to be the location of several houses belonging to well-known early Lexi-tonians like John Hunt Morgan and John Bradford, publisher of Kentucky’s first newspaper, Kentucke Gazette. This photo is a poor segue to one of my oldest and dearest friends Robert Lewis featured below. Robert is a storyteller who travels the nation telling stories, keeping his Cherokee/Navajo/Apache cultures alive. I see Robert every day throughout my house that’s adorned with his paintings, almost all of them thematically non-native save for one that he titled “Kopana’s Wolf.” Robert has always been an extraordinary man, artistically, spiritually, emotionally. He’s just a brilliant human being. Today, Osiyo TV shared a short film they made about him. It tells his story. It touched me so much that I wanted to share it here with those who can appreciate his extraordinary gifts to this world. I miss being in his company, but we’re never far apart. He has an uncanny way of knowing when I need to hear from him, sharing a photo or a story or just a “hello my beautiful friend” text. I don’t know what I did to deserve such a loving, giving, devoted friend who has made me feel valued on this planet for 30 years, but I’m sure glad I did it – whatever “it” was. I hope you enjoy hearing Robert’s story as much as I did. I think tonight I’ll go to church under the stars.
