“The kindest people are not born that way. They are made. They are the souls that have experienced much at the hands of life. They are the ones who have dug themselves out of the dark, who have fought to turn every loss into a lesson. The kindest people do not just exist—they choose to soften where circumstance has tried to harden them; they choose to believe in goodness because they have seen firsthand why compassion is so necessary. They have seen firsthand why tenderness is so important in this world.” ~ Bianca Sparacino

Bluegrass evening

Last week was a whirlwind. After Appalshop came the Blue Grass Trust’s August deTour at Cane Ridge Meeting House outside Paris. In rural Bourbon County, on highway 537, sits one of the most monumental properties in the nation. Mom, dad, and I visited way back in 2014, and I’ve been back many times. I learned some new things this time I hadn’t heard (or read) before, and that’s always good. Distant thunder punctuated the setting sun, turning the evening into an idyllic Kentucky summer day.
