“Happiness is not so much in having as sharing. We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” ~ Unknown

Mr. and Mrs. Claus

Robert and Marie Dale gave my folks matching Santa throws. They loved them immediately, and they looked cute as can be all snuggled up in them. This was a special Christmas for many reasons, not the least of which was that we were all three still together. I will never take that for granted. Cousins Michael and Jeff Terry had a much different, sadder holiday saying goodbye to their mother who passed just three days before Christmas from Covid. The holidays get a little harder as family members begin moving on to the other side. Michael and Jeff’s dad, Randolph, was dad’s oldest brother, and as dad said at Randolph’s funeral, he was his “oldest friend.” The dementia means dad rarely remembers that Randolph has been gone nearly 10 years, and he has no comprehension that Randolph’s wife, Lucille, has now also crossed over. What he recalls very clearly, however, is that he loved them both and that he adores his nephews Mike and Jeff. When we were finally able to make calls today, we called the boys to lend our support and tell them we love them. Never take your people for granted, whether it’s your parents, your kids, your in-laws, or just your friends. Spending holidays with your people, whomever they are, are special, fleeting moments. Don’t take them for granted.
