Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.” ~ Roger Miller

an artist's champion

The only person who supports me and my artistic endeavors as much as my mother is Stacy Yelton (above). If you know my mother, then, you know this is really saying something.  When I feel like giving up or giving in, I see me through her eyes and think, “maybe I ought to listen to her”. After all, she’s almost always right.

Today, at the Seelbach Hotel in Louisville, I had the great pleasure to address one of the most kind and intelligent groups I have ever talked to; the Southern Humanities Council. Stacy went along and, although she was not a guest speaker, the group knew her by name, too, by the time we left. It was a fantastic experience for the both of us.

a new friend

Yes, I took this myself so, it counts for the outhouse! I’m posting it here for two reasons; 1. is for my good friend Mary Carroll-Hackett who couldn’t be with us this year (imagine we’re both saying “Hi Mary, we miss you!!!”), and 2. this is one of the sweetest men I have ever met; my new friend Mark Ledbetter. We met in person for the first time today, but I adored him long before this. I think we shall always be great friends.

from the back

Finally, a shot from the backside of the Cathedral of the Assumption. We passed by this lovely cathedral on our way to the Seelbach. Besides the ornate roof, clock tower, and crosses, they had a very lovely garden lined with river birch that shadowed an enormous portrait of Fr. Thomas Merton and the Dalai Lama. Between this, my traveling companion, my new friends, incredible conversation, totally gorgeous weather, and my parent’s 49th wedding anniversary (only they would marry on Groundhog Day), I just don’t think I could have asked for more.

If this is a dream, don’t wake me.
