We are always going to get what we need, not what we think we need. Eventually we begin to see we only need what we have this moment.” ~ David Bennett

till death us do part
till death us do part

I popped over to UK Chandler Med Center to check on old friends Bobby and Pam Hager. Bobby suffers from Wegener’s granulomatosis; a disease that causes life-threatening inflammation of major organs. When I was in High School, he worked for my dad at  the grocery store, Circle T. Just 2 years my senior, Pam wasn’t much more than 16 when they married (she still looks 16). I got my driver’s license the day their first child was born. Yes, we go way back. Pam and I had lunch together while Bobby awaited dialysis. It was the first time we’d had the chance to really talk in nearly 30 years. She’s humble, and speaks with a slow, comforting mountain drawl. It masks her above-average intelligence and keen memory. Our communion was so enriching to me. There’s just something about being with people like Pam that is life affirming and inspiring. Theirs has not been an easy life, Bobby and Pam, but they’ve always been in it together. Just two weeks ago they renewed their vows. I’m pleased to say that Bobby, while not getting healthier, per se, will live longer thanks to UK medicine. I’ll say a little prayer for both of them tonight, and remain ever thankful for this day of friendship.
