“Today, I will do my best. If I have a good day, I will be proud of myself. If I have a bad day, I will not dwell on it. I will forgive myself, put it behind me and I will continue to move forward.” ~ Unknown

it’s a sign

A mentor, thesis committee member, and colleague Dan Vivian got caught in my picture-taking of the whiteboard in front of the elevators on the 17th floor of the Patterson Office Tower (POT) where the History Department is based. He was there for the same reason I was there: I was part of a workshop for the history department on oral histories this afternoon. Dan has dual roles at UK in History and Historic Preservation, which is how we met, and he’s a proponent of oral history as a research methodology. I’ve been giving many presentations over the last ten months, and except for the panel talk last week with my Freedom on the Move peeps, today was hands down the most fun and engaging. I’ve become quite a fan of much of the work my history department colleagues do. If I did a PhD, it would probably be in history. But I’m not doing a PhD. I’m close-ish to retirement, and then I’m hitting the road and taking pictures and making art and sleeping when I want to. No alarm clocks allowed.
