“In the midst of winter, i found there was, within me, an invincible summer.” ~ Albert Camus
This guy right here, one Rev. Ken Bailey, is just about the hippest dude I know. Not only can he sing and play like a bird, he’s got a heart as big as Texas and a brain to match. He did a fantastic job with Gary’s memorial service in 2019 and I hope to have the opportunity to visit with him longer, and under better circumstances, next time I’m out Vinita, Oklahoma way. Now, you might not remember, but Oklahoma is not where I met Ken, and he’s one of the few people I didn’t meet through Angie. Nope, I met him when he was still here in Lexington and his son Daniel, a fabulous singer/songwriter in his own right, had just released a CD. Stacy was still Music Director and PD then, and she was so impressed with them both that she mentioned them to me. Pretty soon we were all following each other on facebook. I finally got to meet Ken and Daniel in person way back in 2012, and we have stayed in touch ever since. Then, when Ken was called back to Oklahoma to serve a Presbyterian church there, he met up with Pam and Gary Thurman. It seems like Ken’s brother went to school with Pam or some such as that. Whatever the case, this is a brilliant example of those connections I was talking about yesterday and how important they are and how we are all ultimately connected. I feel so honored sometimes to have such friends of the soul like Ken and Pam.
