“Everything we say at funerals should be said at birthday parties instead. We leave so much love unspoken.” ~ Unknown

Today, Shero turned 82.

surprise daughter

We had decided at Christmas to save our pennies and go to our favorite Longhorn Steakhouse to celebrate our January birthdays together. So, that’s what we did. After my morning class, I got Mom’s car tags renewed (important detail), picked her up, and went off in the pouring rain. The staff at Longhorn was incredible, and props to GM Craig for his kindness and birthday wishes. Then, as an unexpected bonus, Crystal was nearby for an appointment and long about dessert time; who should appear – Crystal! She made Mom’s day. (She made mine, too)

After lunch, it was back into the deluge for a series of stops that ended with birthday ice cream from Dairy Queen (no birthday is complete without ice cream). We thought the day couldn’t be any better, but when we returned home, her birthday gift was on the porch. How’s that for timing? The photo on the blanket was taken around 1967, and I don’t think I’ve given her a gift that she loves as much as this one. She kept saying it was just like he was here with us. I think it gave her great comfort, and it will continue to comfort her for many nights to come. All in all, we had a perfect day, rain and all. Happy Birthday, Mom. We all love you.
