“Learn as if you will live forever, live like you will die tomorrow.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

special book

I’ve been reading and thinking a lot about place, home, and landscape, and this book was referenced more than once in those readings. “The Interpretation of Ordinary Landscapes,” includes an important Geographer for my work. His name is Yi Fu Tuan, and he coined the term Topophilia, which means love of Place. I found a super cheap copy, and when I opened it up, it was full of all these great handwritten passages and little bits of ephemera throughout the pages. The book was first published in 1979. By 1982, it belonged to William J. Leskanik of Pittsburgh. His penmanship is remarkable; you can tell he poured through this book and likely many others. I see two William J. Leskanik’s via a quick Google search, one in Monticello, Florida age 67, and another in Poland, Ohio, age 78. Whichever it is, or if it was another, I think he was pretty cool in 1982, and I’d love to meet him today. I bet he’s still cool.
