“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things.” ~ Unknown

childhood

There was a restaurant in West Liberty that had these jukeboxes at each table (this particular jukebox can be found at Crown Candy in North St. Louis). I distinctly remember every time we went to that restaurant, I could care less about the food, all I wanted was the jukebox. I remember having lunch with Tony and mom, and as they talked, I fell deeper and deeper into the songs on the jukebox. Every hit was played that day, or as many as I could bum money for. It was such a different world back then – so far removed from iPhones, YouTube, the internet. We savored every morsel, every note, every hello and goodbye. Jukeboxes are still awesome in my world.

ADDENDUM: I should have noted that I was watching McCartney 3, 2, 1 when I considered this photo. A jukebox was not where I first heard the Beatles (that would be mom’s 45 collection), but they got played a great deal on the jukebox every time we were out. Mom loved them. Tony likes to remind me that at the time we had that lunch I mentioned above I was obsessed with Tennessee Hound Dog by the Osborne Brothers. That would have been 1969. The Osborne Brothers had been on constant rotation when I was a year-old baby….yes, I remember it really well. I was partial to Roll Muddy River, and I still am, but I guess I took a shine to Tennessee Hound Dog that year. P.S. McCartney 3, 2, 1 is incredible if you’re at all interested in music production and how to revolutionize a bass guitar. McCartney is really one of the most gifted, charmed people to ever live and I am SO grateful I have gotten to share this planet with him AND see him live. He was always my favorite and I now fully understand why.
