“Sometimes what didn’t work out for you worked out for you.” Unknown

framily

Today, after lunch, Diane Rickey listened on as Angie Bliss Fanning, Kevin Edmondson, and I recalled that July day in 2000 when Kevin had a major heart attack, and Angie and I got him to the hospital just before he coded. I mean, really, he got out of the car, and that’s the last thing he remembers, as I learned today. Within five minutes, the nurse escorted Angie and me into one of those “consultation” rooms and told us to wait for the doctor, not realizing that we could hear everything they were doing to Kevin in the ER room next door, including the sound of the defibrillator paddles they had to use over and over and over again (not exaggerating). Today was the first Kevin heard about that. Things were not looking good for our brother, but a good doctor and nursing staff at the Tahlequah City Hospital, a life flight to Tulsa, a couple of surgeries, and many months of rehab later, he regained his footing, and here we are, 23 years later, able to celebrate him. Never take your people, or a day above dirt, for granted. Also, keep gas in the car, especially if you live far from a hospital. (props to Stacy Yelton for loaning me her Corolla that day! Kevin thanks you, too.)
