“On particularly rough days when I’m sure I can’t possibly endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days so far is 100%, and that’s pretty good.” ~ Unknown

60s… for now

Angie and I saw Rod and Diane’s new house this afternoon. This place is just about the most perfect house I could ever imagine. I’ve been developing the ideal house for me in my imagination for a decade, and their house is very close. I was stunned when I first walked in. Though Rod and Diane have finessed their design into something beyond anything I could dream up. Their studios are in a separate building (below to the left of the main house). There’s a killer breezeway between the garage and house, which, when the floor-to-ceiling windows are closed, doubles as an entertainment room with a wood stove, TV, and dart board. Their nice open kitchen living space plan has well-separated bedrooms, each with its own bath and an additional toilet in the utility/mud room by the breezeway. And that’s just the floor plan. The other design elements are even more impressive. This house is gorgeous in its simplicity and design, from interior wall finishes and unique ceramic tile work to durable exterior siding that will outlive us all.  One of the many things I love about Rod and Diane is their artistry. They typically draw their own plans, as they did for Angie’s house; for this house in particular, they built it themselves with only a few helpers when needed. I can’t imagine being that cool, but I sure am glad they let me hang out with them. I love them so.
