Westville, Oklahoma, sitting at the crossroads of highways 62 and 59, has a really cool former gas station (this is not it). Angie graciously took me to photograph it, and then we turned left. Neither of us had ever turned left because turning right takes you to Fayetteville, which had always been our destination. We were in for a treat turning left onto Williams Street, though today it looks strangely like it should be Main Street. The first of our delights was the Westville Reporter building. Originally built as a bank, the building has been modified over the years in an attempt to give it a more contemporary look. I hope someone will take the building and roll back those “updates” to return it to its original glory. The people of Westville, who measure only 1,365 in number, are sitting on a fabulous opportunity to turn their town into a destination with just a little effort (but a lot of money). BFFs Regina Barnett and Kate Young Kelly both graduated from Westville High School (a future post). Westville was born as a railroad town in the late 1800s, a decade before statehood.
