“If you struggle with being liked by everyone then remember this: Jesus only had 12 friends and even one of those friends betrayed him. You ain’t gotta be liked/loved by a lot of people to have a great impact.” ~ Jim Sichko

I promised a look at the tiny gas station in Westville, and here it is. Was it always a Phillips 66? It may have been something other than a gas station, but it was certainly an original Phillips 66 Station. At one time, the Phillips 66 company had built over 500 Tudor-inspired buildings in and around Oklahoma, the first erected in 1927 in Kansas. Many have chimneys, some on the right side, some on the left, but the initial design plan (Plan B) was eventually altered, and each new design carried a letter of the alphabet up to U. It’s possible that buildings without chimneys were built by the franchisee, leaving the chimneyed structures built by the Phillips 66 company, but I can’t confirm that right now. This National Park Service paper is a fascinating start for exploring these unique buildings that today number less than 100. The current owner of the Westville Phillips 66 station has made many proper updates, and it stands in excellent shape today. I hope Westville honors this great little building by never tearing it down or building something garish as an attachment. It’s perfect the way it is (though I might clear the weeds).
