“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” ~ Jim Valvano
Shero had an Austin Powers moment in the grocery today. At least this was a hysterically funny substitute for what we used to do on Father’s Day: pile into the car with Hero and take off driving, letting the adventure unfold organically. Sometimes, we didn’t get far; other times, we drove a hundred miles. The best adventure was the year we went to Lincoln’s birthplace by way of Bardstown and ended up at Shakertown for supper. We planned none of it, and it was an incredible day. I am so, so, so grateful for that day and all the other adventures we had over the years. I’m also grateful for the family portrait below. It would have been around 1973, as if you couldn’t tell by the various red patterns. If memory serves, I was eight. Anyway, I am equally grateful to take Austin Powers to the grocery; I mean, Shero. She’s still as funny as she was when I was eight.
