2023 will mark 30 years since Charlotte Webb and I first met. She was singing Merle Haggard songs while she cut hair at the Hairport when it was above Deja Vu/Bella Rose at the corner of Upper and Maxwell. I lived across the street at the time and I turned out to be one of her first clients. She was a newlywed. I was a rock and roll drummer in two bands, going through art school, and delivering pizzas and newspapers to make ends meet.
Back in winter, Charlotte moved her studio to Danville where she lives with her husband, whom I knew only as “darlin’ for nearly a decade.” I tried letting someone else cut my hair once she was gone. Lord have mercy. Stacy let the same woman cut her hair. It wasn’t nearly as bad as mine, but ‘Lord have mercy’ still applied. Today we drove to Danville on an emergency mission and found Charlotte happier than she’s been in years and thriving in her new, absolutely adorable location near downtown Danville. As if I didn’t already know, Charlotte Webb is one of only two people on the planet who can cut my hair (Kevin Edmondson in Tahlequah being the other). She’s worth the drive. Stacy agrees. A great day was had by all.
