“If I’ve learned anything from life, it’s that sometimes, the darkest times can bring us to the brightest places… I’ve learned that no matter how powerless we feel or how horrible things seem, we can’t give up. We have to keep going. Even when it’s scary, even when all of our strength seems gone, we have to keep picking ourselves back up and moving forward, because whatever we’re battling in the moment, it will pass, and we will make it through. We’ve made it this far. We can make it through whatever comes next.” ~ Daniell Koepke

The Barbourville Goddess

Yesterday you saw Debra Bays from the back and today here’s her sweet smiling face. It was easily 30 years since I last saw Debbie, so I was super excited to know she was coming to Stump’s memorial. Debbie has always been one of the sweetest souls to walk this rock. She’s incredibly creative, down to Earth, smart as a whip and funny as all get out. I mean bust a gut funny.  Debbie managed Metropolitan Blues Allstars for a time. Sunday, she added to the long line of folks telling great stories about Stump, saying she works with teenage delinquents now and she likes to think her time as their manager gave her the background she needed. She now lives in southern Ohio very close to where I go to visit many that I love – The Bicks and The Chapmans – and we have vowed to continue Sunday’s love-fest with a get together. I’m hoping to make it happen before summer’s end because I’m not waiting another 30 years to soak up some of that Debbie Bays light.
