“We do not become artists. We came as artists. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.
We do not become writers.. dancers.. musicians.. helpers.. peacemakers. We came as such. We are.
Some of us are still catching up to what we are.
We do not learn to love in this sense. We came as Love. We are Love. Some of us are still catching up to who we truly are.”
~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes

gig rig

After four long years – with a year of a Pandemic thrown in for good measure – Golden Alert finally played our first gig at Green Lantern. Jeff Yurkowski, Neil Sturgill, Fred Sexton, Elwood Francis, and Travis Jones have put up with me not having played a full gig in over 10 years. Tonight that dry spell has finally, thankfully, and hopefully forever ended. It felt incredible, warts and all. We didn’t crash and burn like any of us expected to, and we did expect to. My clothes and hair are soaked with sweat. I’ve got blisters on my hands. My muscles are sore as can be. I couldn’t be happier. There’s lots of work to be done, but we’ve got the cobwebs thrown off now, and we’re all really looking forward to the next gig. Props to Green Lantern. To my surprise, the room sounded great. And big shout outs to my homies Marie and Robert Dale, Marie’s sister Cricket, and Mike Moore for coming out on a school night to hear a really shaky bunch of folks play some pretty fun rock and roll. I love playing in this band. Every one of the guys are super special to me and I look forward to many, many more gigs in the not-too-distant future.
