“Sometimes God sends help in quiet ways. Not always with miracles or grand signs, but through people. A kind word. A listening ear. A hand that shows up exactly when you need it.” ~ Unknown
A couple of weeks ago, my colleague, Deirdre Scaggs, who travels to Costa Rica every so often, gifted me this delicious bar of chocolate. It is some of the smoothest chocolate I’ve ever eaten, with just the right amount of sweetness to cut the cacao bitterness. I know it’s quality because it didn’t break out my skin. Yes, friends, it’s true: some chocolate breaks me out even at this age, and no dermatologist has been able to tell me why. Good quality chocolate, however, does not break me out. That basically means any American chocolate will embarrass me. A Hershey bar? I might as well walk around naked because I will get just as much unwanted attention from the giant red blotches on my face as if I left every stitch of clothing at home on the floor. Butterfinger? Heath Bar? Milky Way? 3 Musketeers? Forget it. Even Reese’s will anger my flesh. This time of year, though, I throw caution to the wind because Reese’s eggs are a must. But I have to admit that I have become a chocolate snob. It needs to be good-quality chocolate, or it’s hardly worth the calories and angry skin. That’s more about my skin and chocolate habit than you ever wanted to know. Carry on, and eat only the best chocolate.
