Dr. Zada Komara, Archaeologist extraordinare and University of Kentucky professor, has won nearly all the awards there are to win for teaching. This evening, at the Appalachian Studies Association awards, she won another one, presented by her friend and fellow UK prof, BFF Kathryn Engle. Let me tell you about Zada. She is not only one of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met, but also completely hilarious, the best dresser on the planet, as you can see, and truly one of the most inspiring teachers to ever walk the earth. Rather recently, she began posting videos teaching folks on Instagram and Facebook about archaeology. In a way that only Zada could pull off, the videos are funny, clear, concise, no-holds-barred knowledge slinging like nobody’s business. And that’s not what she won the award for, but if they’re giving awards for in-your-face teaching with class, wit, and beauty, she’d win that, too. It was a lovely start to my favorite conference, and I’m tickled for all the winners. They all deserve the accolades, and Zada most of all. She never disappoints.
