the team (thanks, Jim Ridolfo)

We did a thing today. Actually, we’ve been doing a thing for a while, but we were recognized for our efforts today. We won the Sarah Bennett Holmes Team Award. Given by the UK Women’s Forum, “The Sarah Bennett Holmes Team Award recognizes a team of faculty, staff, students and/or external partners who have shown efforts to promote the well-being and growth of women at the university and throughout the Commonwealth.” The Women in Bourbon Oral History Project was the brainchild of Jan Fernheimer, whom you first met back in 2018 when she was still working on her Jewish Kentucky Oral History Project.  The Women in Bourbon project centers on women in the bourbon industry, from master distillers to bourbon review editors and a lot more. Jan began working with JWells when they got a grant to look exclusively at black women in bourbon, and of course, Doug has been involved from the start. Meanwhile, back at the ranch – the Nunn Center Ranch that is – Jen, Jesse, Danielle (before Jesse), and I provided the support needed to bring the project to fruition successfully. It does take a team to pull off large projects like this one, and it was very nice to be recognized. It was also extremely generous of the project heads to include the rest of us in the win. Not a bad day at all.
