“Maybe the best idea is the one you’re going to come up with this evening.” ~ Rick Rubin

git ‘er done

I don’t think I mentioned that we made cutting boards at the Robinson Station Wood Center. Well, actually, the very kind gentlemen at the Wood Center cured, cut, glued, and shaped the wood strips into rectangles, and we just rounded the edges, sanded, and finished with mineral oil. It was a quick process for us, but oh, the smell of that wood was divine. The wood came from Robinson Forest trees that had fallen; cherry, hickory, walnut, and maple. And if the smell didn’t grip you, look at the floor! My friend Rick Herman saw yesterday’s post about the flooring and clued me in on it. It’s called ‘end grain wood block flooring.’ There are several manufacturers, and I’ve now seen several wood types like yellow pine, ponderosa pine, mesquite, maple, piñon, cedar, ash, birch, oak, and on and on. I really wish I was better at reading the grains so I could tell for sure what type of wood is laid in the Wood Center. Rick can probably tell me. In any case, I wish I’d known about this a few years ago when I was remodeling the kitchen. I would have gone with end grain wood block. I’m a fan.
