“If you can’t make it better, you can laugh at it.” ~ Erma Bombeck

There’s comfort in warm house lights at sunset, but 50,000 people in Lexington remain without power after three days, and I feel for them. I want them to feel the comfort I feel this evening. In the 2003 ice storm, the worst for Kentucky Utilities (KU) and Lexington, we were without power for eight days. That wasn’t much fun, let me tell ya. Friday’s storm is the third worst by KU standards, and for many of the folks in the city, another eight days is not out of the question. We had another bad ice storm in 2008 (that was #2 on the list of 3), so I thought maybe the one-two punch of 03 and 08 would cause officials to rethink the power infrastructure. If they rethought it, it wasn’t effective. Maybe the third times’ the charm? I’m no accountant, but after 20 years of emergency rescue fees, we could have paid to bury all the power lines by now. Anyway, to my Central Kentucky peeps still without power: I can help with warmth, showers, laundry, and a hot meal. Please don’t hesitate to reach me. In the meantime, keep finding things to laugh about. There’s plenty of that.
