Dr. Ann Kingsolver worked hard as the director of Appalachian Studies at UK, and after many years, she was successful in creating the graduate certificate in Appalachian Studies. In addition to the master’s in historic preservation, I am also part of the certificate’s first cohort, along with my fellow graduates below, who have all been a big part of my life over the last two years. Ann and Dr. Kathryn Engle are unsung heroes to many Appalachian students. I feel mighty lucky to be in their company.

This afternoon, the Appalachian Center held its year-end celebration and gave all the graduates Appalachian stoles. It was like graduation, but in an intimate setting with some of my favorite people, kinda like my undergrad graduation with Crystal, except that was a much bigger crowd. Anyway, it has been an honor to be part of the Appalachian Center, and I look forward to more opportunities with my people. What a wonderful day.
