“The real test is being kind to unkind people.” ~ Unknown

It has been a really interesting day, full of old friends and coincidences (or were they?). I’ll tell you later about the big event of the day and just how coincidental it all was, but when I returned to the office from that, I found Crystal at the desk with a smile and a “Happy Graduation Day!” It threw me at first because the day’s significance hadn’t occurred to me. Two days ago, an old high school friend had said we’d graduated 50 years ago. We’d only graduated 40 years ago on May 8 (only 40 years – jeez-O-Pete, where did the time go?). Then it dawned on me that Crystal was talking about our college graduation in 1997. That was May 10. That’s only 26 years ago – jeez-O-Pete, where did the time go? After the light bulb came on in my head, we had a giggle over how weird it is that we find ourselves still at UK and working together in the same building. It’s not what either of us thought we’d be doing. I’m not sure what we thought we’d be doing, but I’m certain it wasn’t this. When we graduated, I was going to take a gap year, and then go to grad school at the University of New Mexico, which had a killer photo program. I seem to remember Crystal was working at a pool and spa place before landing a gig at Holifield Photography doing senior portraits and such. It’s all so interesting to me how she and I have so much in common, how our lives have been woven around UK and together over such a long period of time. They always say you meet and make some of your best friends in college, and she is proof that it’s true. HRB – it’s been a fun ride! I think on our 30th anniversary we should gather some of our other classmates and have a party.
