After yesterday’s post, my friend Esther Edwards told me the last high school graduation took place in Memorial Coliseum in 1976. She was one of the last Henry Clay High kids to graduate here before the city high schools moved their graduations to Rupp Arena. The photo brought Esther good memories, so I reckon we ought to have one more feel-good picture for old-time sake.

Greetings Daniel is my name and I am doing a lot of demolition and abatement In Memorial Coliseum. It dirty interesting work. We are presently removing old ceiling under the seats and finding some interesting things old matchbooks, programs, cups, just trash. The are small round wholes under the seats and over the years people stuffed items under them. It’s fun seeing what you find.
My Memorial coliseum. Story has a sad but also happy ending. In 1979 I was a senior at Lafayette HS are basketball team was undefeated heading in to the regional finals. It was the only game we could loose and still go to the state championship in Rupp Arena. And guess what we lost to our cross town rivals TC. But went on to win the state championship.
