I walked into the break room for lunch a few weeks ago, and they said, “Hey, have you seen the Instagram account today?” I had not seen the Libraries Instagram account. Of all the people they could have photographed at the Special Collections Breckenridge Reading Room desk who do a really great job of reference, they picked the worst one to show: me. I’m up there the least amount of time, and I feel like I always have to ask for help when I get a question, even the slightest, beyond an oral history or a newspaper. But doggone it, I look like a librarian, don’t I? I laughed out loud when I saw the picture. Forty years ago, when all I did was eat, breathe, and sleep music, who would have ever thought it would come to this? I sure didn’t. But ya know what? It sure could have gone a lot worse. I’ve made some wonderful friends along the way and the University has provided excellent opportunities. I don’t know who the photographer was, but she was a delightful young woman. I hope the University is kind to her.
