Silly me, I let my lunch party of JD and Patsy Carruthers walk away without a photo. In my defense, it was pouring rain, as it has been for the past two days. Regardless of the missing photo, we had a wonderful time catching up on everything from phased retirement — I’m surprised by how many people want to know about it —to elder care and doctoral degrees. As a bonus, JD gave me this book, a tome akin to the bible of oral history and Appalachian culture. I’ve been looking for this book at a reasonable price for months, and JD came from out of the blue with it. It feels like Christmas between the book and the lunch. They made this dreary day bright as sunshine.
