“Follow your heart, but take your brain with you.” Fr. Jim Sichko

Jill! JILL!

I laughed till I thought I’d cry. As I mentioned yesterday, I was just placing the last flower on the graves when I said to our (me and Shero) steadfast decoration day buddy, Jill, “Turn around and look before it hits us,” pointing to the wall of rain racing across the valley. I then headed for the trees, but Jill, even with her “4-wheel drive” cane, wasn’t quite as fast and had another idea. She picked up the now-empty flower box and put it on her head. I wasn’t entirely dry under the trees, but I wasn’t standing under an open water hose either, so I hollered for her. I watched the cardboard begin to collapse under the water weight. I kept hollering. She was deaf as a post beneath that cardboard cavern battered by torrents of rain. She never turned around until the rain let up. We had a good laugh, and frankly, that’s just what the doctor ordered on this, the first laying of the flowers of Hero and Shero together. Like Jill and I, it was obvious the flowers were going to hold up just fine in the weather. So we had a great laugh, took better pictures after the rain passed, then went shopping for live flowers at Fannin’s, then went to Morehead for a nice Cracker Barrel dinner, and then to Wally World for pee pads and Paradontax toothpaste (aging is fun, isn’t it?). Despite the rain, it was a wonderful day. Note, not all the flowers are from me. Only the vase arrangements and hanging baskets. The others came from other family members, and I suspect the pennies came from Bazie.
