The end of spring semester is especially fruitful because there are a ton of art projects around campus. Take, for example, these final projects from the Architecture students. I don’t know what the assignment is, or what the outcome should ideally be, but these two …things… caught my eye. The other …things… were the expected square construction, but these were less typical. Their shapes drew me in. They were fluid. The sphere was organic, save for the synthetic Saran Wrap: an intriguing combination. The wooden object evokes an Adam and Eve rib-meets-Airstream vibe. Wrap it in aluminum, add a toilet, slap on some wheels, and you’re ready for camping. I love this kind of inventive stuff. I think that’s what I miss most about college art courses: it’s that challenge to think outside the box, to throw a cliche. Have I mentioned that I love this kind of stuff?
