“I believe appreciation is a holy thing – that when we look for what’s best in a person we happen to be with at the moment, we’re doing what God does all the time. So in loving and appreciating our neighbour, we are participating in something sacred.” ~ Fred Rogers

We’ve started the season of firsts. This was the first Thanksgiving without dad and Aunt Janet. Dad always enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with the family at Aunt Lois’ house. He’d sit with his brothers, holding court of sorts, until it was time to eat, dressed in seasonal red, looking cozy and peaceful. No matter how tired he might have been, he was content to stay as long as we wanted. It is a special thing for Lois to offer the family a gathering place. Our grandparents have been gone since 2009, and it’s amazing how we’ve managed to stick together for the holidays. Not everyone can be with us, of course. Many now have their own families or live too far away, but for the Central and Eastern Kentucky Terrys, we’re still celebrating together. Every year we are together, I cherish all the more. From our family to yours, I hope your day has been wonderfully food-filling with gratitude galore.
