It was his tail’s job: to
synchronize all nearby
moods to the measure of his
joy.
A metronome of happiness.”

What a great surprise to see old friends and new come into the office today. Ginny Daley, whom you’ve met before, was part of the gang that put together Alfalfa’s 50th Anniversary party and oral history project. The gang of four – the lady on the left, I do not remember her name, old friend Lucinda Zoe, newer friend Sue Grizzell, and Ginny – began the oral history portion of their project. I hadn’t seen Lucinda in probably 20 years, so it was great to hug her neck and say a brief hello. It’s hard to visit when there are things to do, like, oh, work. Nevertheless, they made my day. If you’re not familiar with Alfalfa’s, it was a staple of campus life and eating since the 1970s until they moved downtown at some point in the 2000s. It was never quite the same after that, but the early years near campus with the core group that nursed it into being an institution were a vibrant, progressive group of artists, musicians, writers, and everybody in between. It was a great place to eat, and anybody who had the experience back in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s will know exactly what I mean when I say it was just a great place to be. And weren’t we the lucky ones who got to take that trip with these gals?
