“One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn’t pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.” ~ Lucille Ball

women vote

Ordinarily, it’s Stacy and I who take selfies after we vote, but she’s voting by absentee ballot these days, and this is the first time since Covid that mom has been able to vote in person. So off we went to do our civic duty. Every time there’s an election, I think to myself how we should have never taken civics out of the classroom. So few people understand how our government works and the role they can play in making it so dysfunctional. People who don’t vote – I don’t care what their rationale is – are largely responsible for the increasing messes we find ourselves in as a nation. People who don’t do just a little reading to learn the difference between the truth and a lie – I don’t care what side they’re on – are largely responsible for the increasing messes we find ourselves in as a nation. Apathy kills. My parents taught me the value of voting, even if my candidate loses. They both fought for my right to cast that vote. My grandmothers were born before women had the right to vote in this country. That’s hard to fathom now, but in the grand scheme, it’s not that long ago, and there’s no guarantee it will always be so. [steps off soapbox] Thank you, Hero and Shero, for teaching me to exercise the right you fought to give me, and thanks, Shero, for voting with me.
