“Happiness resides not in possessions, and not in gold. Happiness dwells in the soul.”
~ Democritus
A few weeks ago I mentioned that my high school was small and that most of us were good friends regardless of the year we graduated. In a county as small as Morgan, you really do grow up together, not quite family, but definitely not strangers. So, when I heard the news this morning that two friends from the class of 1982 had died on the same day – yesterday – I was stunned. They didn’t die the same way, or even in the same states. Mike Holbrook (top) and James Paul Ison (bottom) were both really good guys. I went to a Christmas dance with James Paul when I was 14. I think his mom drove us. He was the only boy I ever kissed with braces. I had a crush on Mike, but then, I think all the girls had a crush on Mike. He was rebelliously fun, athletic, and chiseled. What’s not to crush about that? I will cherish fondly my time with Mike and James Paul and our growing up together. Godspeed boys, and thanks for being an important part of my life.
