“‘Someday you will fit in and instantly regret it.’ I used to carry this note in my pocket wherever I went as a warning to quit comparing myself to others. I used to be so obsessed with making my life resemble everyone else’s. Eventually ~ after a lot of needless suffering ~ I discovered that my desire to look normal was killing me. It was death by conformity. My love, don’t waste time like I did trying to fit in. Remember that in the entire history of the cosmos there will only be one you…” ~ John Roedel

summer’s gone

A cold front moved through last night and left us with the most gorgeous crisp fall day. While a big pot of chili simmered in the background, I spent the day writing, writing, writing about the architectural elements of the Watkins Farmhouse. It is amazing how much I learn as I’m writing. The medium forces me to look at everything. It’s one thing to photograph a house, but it’s something altogether different to then put pen to paper and describe it. It forces one to know precisely what one means, and be pinpoint accurate in the description. In fact, I’ve come to appreciate this method of learning so much that, for future presentations, I will probably first write it as a paper. I won’t read the paper as part of the presentation. NO! Pet peave: don’t read your presentation. Anyway, I’ve found that writing helps organize my thoughts on a given topic and makes me better able to talk about it later. So, yea, writing: I’m a fan. Also a big fan of beautiful crisp fall days in Kentucky.
