up up and away
Here’s a little look back on the flight home from DC just before we flew into Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. It was plenty gloomy in DC by then, too. That hurricane was so unusual. I don’t remember seeing hurricane tentacles reach as far from the eyewall as Helene’s did, not to mention the rain. We landed in Charlotte, which didn’t get nearly the rain they got in Western North Carolina, but it was getting unusual amounts of water and made us late. I still marvel at how great our pilots maneuvered through it all, and I still feel so badly for the people who will be rebuilding their lives for a year or more because of the storm. God bless their hearts.
