“You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to keep showing up for your own becoming.” ~ Dede Hawkins

made with love

Shero had become so put off by the outrageous prices of cemetery flowers that she began experimenting with making her own arrangements, and not just for the cemetery, but around the house, too. When it was time to clear out her house, she had a big bunch of flowers stashed in storage. After ordering my own foam cone, I decided this morning to build a Fall arrangement for Hero and Shero’s graves using the flowers she left behind. It’s a deep red fall color scheme, and I’m not entirely sure how durable they will be in the weather. I plan to remove them when winter arrives and then arrange something new for spring. Last Decoration Day, I bought some pre-made plastic flowers that were said to be UV-protected. The last time I stopped by the cemetery to take a look, they were still holding their color fairly well. That said, I put up several hanging baskets for the whole family, and I think I will build my own flower arrangements for them come Decoration Day ’27. In the meantime, if any of you crafty readers have suggestions for cones, flowers, designs, tips, and tricks, I am all ears. I’m committed to building the flowers for the family myself rather than buying them. Little-known fact about me: one of my earliest jobs in high school was helping Wilma Jean Ruth in her flower shop. Between her and the inspiring designs Belinda Marshall Jordan has done over the decades, I may not be entirely useless in flower arrangements. I’ll let you be the judge as time goes by.
