“You will never regret choosing kindness.” ~ Unknown
I’ve had such a delicious, adventurous day. I got some good work done on an upcoming presentation about my thesis research before meeting colleague and friend Antje Mays (right) for lunch at Millstone in Dudley Square. She’s pictured here with the general manager whose name I have already forgotten, which I hate, and she’s not listed on the website. However, I’ve never felt so welcomed to a restaurant as she and our waiter made me feel. Antje, whom you first met in early August of this year, had asked me to lunch back in April when my phased retirement was announced, and we’ve been trying to find a date ever since. She actually made reservations once before, but we had to cancel because of one of my three bouts of the virus-like non-virus illness. But Antje explained to the staff why we were canceling, so when I arrived today, they remembered that I’d been sick. Each one said they were glad I was feeling better, and so happy I could finally come join them. I was bowled over, frankly. To top it off, the fabulous GM comped our incredible Brussels sprouts appetizer. Ya’ll, I hate Brussels sprouts, but these things were incredible. I would order them again. Their menu is just fantastic, and they’re located in Dudley Square, which is always a treat. They’re the restaurant that added an aesthetically accurate room to the existing historical structure, but I digress. The restaurant was fantastic, yes, and the conversation was outstanding. I think we’d still be there if I hadn’t had to leave for a meeting, which, side note, turned out to be as great as the lunch. I mean, except for the raccoon screaming bloody murder in my crawl space this evening, it’s been a pretty spectacular day, start to finish. I won’t even complain about the maybe-maybe-not-rabid raccoon.
