“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” ~ Jane Goodall

crystal’s nightmare

I call them buzzards, but technically, these are turkey vultures. Vultures don’t do well in ice storms. We had an ice storm a couple of years ago that required animal control to gather over 50 poor things and take them to a warehouse to thaw out. They were so cold they couldn’t even get into the trees. I was home with a stomach bug today (I’m fine), and imagine my surprise when I looked out my kitchen window at noon and saw Crystal Heis’ nightmare. There were 17 turkey vultures in the neighbor’s walnut tree, and more showed up after the photo was taken.  They’d try to move their wings every once in a while, but it took them all day to relocate. My favorite was the vulture on the other neighbor’s chimney cap. That vulture was so still that I had to watch it for a long time to be sure it was alive. I feel sorry for the poor things, and even the crows were having a hard time today. They were walking instead of flying. Just walking down the street like they own the place…because they kinda do. All bird friends are welcome here.
