“Paying close attention — even to the stressful things in life — can actually help you manage your negative reactions.” ~ Jon Kabat-Zinn

he’s a hugger

57 feels…..just like 56! I’ve been getting birthday cards and well-wishing messages all week. Then today, the actual day of my birth, in spite of Covid preventing a big birthday party or dinner out, my people near and far saw to it that I had a fantastic day. I got notes from as far away as Britain and New Zealand, texts from California and Oklahoma, and facebook PMs and posts galore. I had incredible tea delivered to my door, a poem written for me, and two beautiful sweaters. Mom and dad called and sang Happy Birthday. Aunts Lois and Mabel called from Florida and sang Happy Birthday. Even Elvis aka Kiya called from Texas and sang Happy Birthday. If the day ever comes that Elvis does not call to sing Happy Birthday to me, it will be the saddest birthday ever because Elvis has called on my birthday for the last 30 years. I got to have pizza for supper (last hoo-rah before the low-sugar, low-bread observance begins again) and I got to watch a UK Wildcats basketball game with mom and dad (they actually won). I reckon some folks need pomp and circumstance to feel like they’ve celebrated another year around the sun. I’m not one of them. This was a grand birthday. And look, my sweet Wally even climbed into my lap and gave me a hug at the end of ii all. What more could I possibly want?
