We’re circling back to the San Antonio Missions. The mission interiors are very large. Trees on mission grounds are not unusual, and some are quite impressive, like this old mesquite tree inside Mission Espada. You really don’t have anything in the photo to give a sense of scale so you’ll have to take my word for it that this tree is huge. I mean that tree is huge, Tiny Elvis. Maybe it got so big because Espada uses “the oldest continually operating irrigation system in the United States.” I would have loved to have seen and learned more about the system while I was there. Maybe somebody was talking about it, but I was too enthralled with the mesquite to care at the time. Isn’t it gorgeous?
