You first met Steve Kirkpatrick back in 2016. Thanks to Angie, Steve and I met over 30 years ago, and at a point in the early 1990s, we played a little music together in a touring band. He went on to play in a great band with Angie called Bliss McCain for a long time. They were a great band, and Steve was/is a wonderful bass player. He’s an even finer human being, and I love him very much. He came to Kentucky many years ago and met Pam Bob and Jim Bob. He and Jim Bob hit it off, so when I talked with Jim Bob last week, he told me to make it a point to tell Steve hi for him. I have thus delivered that message as Ang and I met up with Steve, Robin, and Sonja “Memaw” Keck for dinner tonight. Sonja lost her partner of 40 years, Wayne, last year, and spending some time with her was really good. Of course, Robin is as beautiful and happy as ever, and she brought her youngest grandson, Asher, along to meet me. That boy is almost as adorable as his daddy Trae. I love the picture of Sonja and Robin. Their love for each other is palpable. Thanks to new friend Denise for the group photo. It was a wonderful evening spent with some of the best people I know. (if you need a family scorecard, Robin is Sonja’s only daughter, Trae (Asher’s dad) is Robin’s only son, and Robin and Steve have been together for 25 years as of the fourth of July. Angie and Robin have been BFFs since high school.)
