“Life after death isn’t the question. It’s life before death. So, how are you gonna do it? How are you going to live?” ~ Linda Ronstadt

Revisiting Texas photos because I love them so…and they’re still being processed, Pioneer Flour Mills has been in business since the mid-1800s when owner Carl Guenther immigrated from Germany. Of course, his first mill was in Fredericksburg, Texas as you might expect, but this mill was relocated from Fredericksburg and was the first of Guenther’s two mills in San Antonio along the San Antonio River. It sits across from Guenther’s former home in the famed King William neighbourhood. Naturally, the mill has been significantly updated over the decades to keep up with technology, so I’m not sure what, if any, historical elements remain of the original mill. Nevertheless, just the outside looming over the upscale neighbourhood filled with incredibly intact historical homes was quite interesting if out of character aesthetically. In fact, I think that’s what I liked about it. It gave the neighbourhood some other level of cool it wouldn’t have without it. I’m not sure the residents would agree, but maybe they would!
